 Guard

Rottweilers are meant to be watch dogs. Rottweilers are good but there are a lot of other dogs, that will  best at guarding, police dogs, army dogs, and watchdogs besides a Rottweiler. Some of the best dogs to use when you are in danger or need a guard are Bullmastiffs, Doberman Pinscher, Giant Schnauzer, Akita, German Shepherd, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Rottweiler, Puli, and a Rhodesian Ridgeback.
The best to use out of all of them are Rottweilers. The reason that they are the best to use is because they were actually they are meant for working dogs and they are very good at protecting people and children. According to http://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/best-guard-dogs/
Rottweilers are very reserved with strangers and affectionate and loyal with his/her family. They have a medium energy level. Male rottweilers can weigh 110-130 lbs and female rottweilers can weigh 77-110 lbs. Rottweilers can live 8-10 years. A Rottweilers height is 1 foot 10 in.to 2 ft. and 3 in. tall at the shoulder.
Rottweilers are very good dogs, but they can be very dangerous as well. Rottweilers have something called the lockjaw and that causes them to have a dangerous bite. The lock jaw is something that makes their jaw lock up when they bite something, for example if they bite a metal rod then they can use the lock jaw and actually they will hang off the ground.
Rottweilers can be very muscular if you have them exercise. Rottweilers are suppose to have a lot of exercise so they can be in shape and muscular, if the dog does not get enough exercise then they will slowly become unhealthy. According to http://dogtime.com/dog-breeds/rottweiler#/slide/1 Rottweilers a easy to train, they have 4 out of 5 star trainability rate.

Rottweilers have a medium temper if they are angry enough they will grow more strength and they will attack and most likely use their lock jaw. They will become the dangerous dog that you would want. Rottweilers will never fight unless they feel the need to, they will protect anything they feel that needs protection. If a Rottweiler trained right, they are certainly worth spending time on.

Dog Attacks in the U.S. 2015

Recently, scientists have discovered something very critical, the number of dog-bite fatalities is increasing as the years go by. According to dogsbite.org, in the 70s, the yearly average of dog-bite fatalities was 17, as of now it is 31. In 2015, there were a total of 34 U.S fatalities related to dog-bites. Many scientists have come to the conclusion that unneutered, chained, male dogs are most likely to attack people who live, or are temporarily living, on land with the dog.
Dog bites send nearly 368,000 victims to hospital emergency departments per year.  In 2015, more than 28,000 people underwent reconstructive surgery as a result of being bitten by dogs. Dog bites occur every 75 seconds in the United States. Each day, over 1,000 citizens need emergency medical care to treat these injuries.
Annual data shows that amongst children 9 years old and younger, there were 11 male deaths, and 3 female deaths. As for infants, 2 and younger, there were 6 infant deaths. There were 4 male infant deaths, and 2 female infant deaths. All were attacked by family owned dogs, all pitbulls with the exclusion of one american bulldog. All of the dogs were also males, which have a higher chance of attack, which is also true for unneutered dogs.
Pitbulls accounted for 82% (28) of the total deaths, while pit bulls only take up 6.6% of the U.S. dog population. According to dogsbite.org, “from 2005 to 2015, pitbulls killed 232 Americans, about one citizen every 17 days, versus rottweilers, which killed 41, about one citizen every 98 days. Pitbulls are so commonly involved in dog attacks because they were specifically bred for “gameness”, meaning the ability to finish a fight. A true game dog, such as many pit bulls, will continue fighting while “on stumps” which mean two or more broken legs, and far worse. In other words, they will fight till death, and only death, stops them.
Scientists and government officials are trying to find new ways to reduce the number of dog bites each year. In Montreal, Canada, they have officially put the rule into effect that no citizen can purchase or adopt a pitbull from now on. By the end of the year, anyone who owns a pitbull must have it registered and have a muzzle on it anytime the dog goes outside. Even worse, any Montreal shelter dog considered to be a pit bull or pit bull-like is facing euthanasia now that the ban is in effect. This ban began after a woman was mauled to death by a pitbull in June. The dog that attacked the women may not have been a pitbull, Montreal police are still waiting for DNA tests back. Many critics are saying the ban won’t work because banning a breed because of a few aggressive dogs, is completely unreasonable. Other governments and towns are also considering this option as well, while 41 other countries have a similar breed ban.
Breeding of German Shepherds

They are the most popular dog breed in the U.S., German shepherds. They were trained to work for herding but quickly, the breeders changed direction and they worked for military. The dog breed served as a Red Cross dog, rescuer, messenger, supply carrier, and a sentry during World War 1. Now they work for the handicapped, police, military, herding, search and rescue, drug detection, competitive obedience, and a loyal companion. They are so optimal as a work dog because of their compassion and determination.

The German Shepherd got it’s name because the breed was meant to work for shepherds in Germany. The breed began in 1899. Max von Stephanitz was looking for a determined compassionate dog that can work as a herding dog. He went to dog shows and kennels. One day in 1899 he was at a dog show and saw the dog with the traits he sought. Though it was meant for herding, Germany was becoming more and more industrial and there was no longer much use for the dog breed. So, with the determination of Stephanitz, the dogs were trained to work for the military.

Out of the top ten smartest dog breeds German Shepherds come in third. First is the Border Collie, after that comes the Poodle. Then after the German shepherd, in order, are the Golden Retriever, Doberman Pinscher, Shetland Sheepdog, Labrador Retriever, Papillon, Bloodhound, and lastly the Rottweiler. Being so high on the intelligence scale just goes further to prove that they are good work dogs.

German Shepherds can be as old as 9 to 13 years. Males can be 24 to 26 inches in height. Females can be 22 to 24 inches tall. Both genders can be from 75 to 95 lbs in weight. Hopefully these dogs stay determined, well working dogs, just as they were bred to be.

The barkless dog

While basenjis may be barkless they are far from silent. They grunt, growl, chortle, yodel, and crow. Basenjis are medium sized dogs that need a lot of exercise to make sure that their energy doesn’t build up and drive them to do a little remodeling in your house. Basenjis stand out because of their tail that is always curled up on their backs, and by their ears that are always pricked up. Most basenjis are either a rust colored and white or black and white.

These dogs originally came from Central Africa and had stretched out to South Sudan from the center of the Congo basin. Back in the 1980’s basenji breeders had to go back to the Congo to select more basenjis that did not have the genetic kidney disease called Fanconi syndrome that had almost wiped out the American population of them. “Basenjis are arguably the oldest dog, found in Egyptian hieroglyphs and art.”(animalplanet.com)

In their native homes basenjis were used for hunting. They mainly hunted birds and other small game, but lions too. They went out on packs and attacked lion(s) or chased them into traps. Here, in America, basenjis can  still be used for hunting but they are a very family friendly dog that gets along with other animals and children. Also, these make great apartment dogs because they don't bark or make to much noise in general.

Basenjis are very independant and they don't like to listen. Like all dogs, basenjis can be bribed into learning new tricks. These dogs don't like to listen because they were trained to go out, hunt, and bring the animal back. Not to sit, stay, lay down, etc., mostly because hunters didn’t need to teach their dogs that. Basenjis are the third worst dogs when it comes to listening, (iheartdogs.com) due to their aloof personality.

Basenjis are known as the barkless dog because, while they make plenty of other noises, they don’t bark. They don’t bark because their larynx (voice box) is narrower than most dogs. Because of this, when basenjis go to bark and the air comes out of their mouths as more of a yodel then a bark. Yodeling isn’t the only noise they make, they also growl, crow, whine, baroo, and make plenty of other noises.

People  who are  looking for a quiet companion by your side, a hunting partner, or just an addition to their family- basenjis are a perfect fit. They are proven dog and kid friendly, and, with some motivation these dogs can be trained.

How many dog breeds are there in the world?

Dogs are really important when it comes to house pets. People always want to go for the most common dogs like, german shepherds, and labs, and golden retrievers. But people don’t realize that there are much more dog breeds then just the common ones there are over 300 dog breeds in the world to be exact 340 dog breeds in the world…  but the current american kennel club only recognizes 167 dog breeds.

Dogs were just a Free category of wolves until about 15,000 years ago, when our ancestors began to manage them. We fed them, bred them, and spread them from continent to continent. While other wolf descendants died out, dogs grew into a new species. We invented the dog. We didn't pick just any wolves for this project. We picked the ones that could help us and get along with us. Dogs are dumber than monkeys and other mammals in many ways, but they excel at one thing interpreting human behavior. Three years ago, scientists tested this talent in wolves, adult dogs, puppies raised in households, and puppies raised in kennels. The wolves couldn't read humans well, but the puppies could—even the puppies raised in kennels. Through selection, we've hardwired human compatibility into dogs. We've made a species in our image.
