Randy Moss The Greatest?
Randy Moss was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round 21st pick of the 1998 NFL Draft. He played for seven years before a trade in 2005 to the Oakland Raiders. On April 29, 2007, Moss was traded to the New England Patriots for a fourth-round draft pick. Overall he played 14 seasons for the National Football League. With over 15,000 receiving yards many people see him as the one of the greatest most athletic receivers to play the game, but what makes him so great.
Randy Gene Moss is a retired NFL wide receiver who was born on February 13, 1977. He grew up in the city of Rand West Virginia with his brother Eric, his sister Lutisia, and his mother and father Maxine and Randy. Moss disliked Rand a lot. So much that he said he never wants to go back to West Virginia. Rand is located near the Kanawha River in Kanawha County, West Virginia, United States. As of 2010, its population was 1,631. It is surrounded by the communities of Malden and DuPont City. Moss went to Belle DuPont for high school and went to college at Marshall University in West Virginia.
Many people see Randy Moss as one of the greatest, most athletic, receivers to ever play the game. Randy Moss in all of his career had 15,292 receiving yards and 156 touchdowns total from 982 receptions. He averaged 15.6 yards per play. Also, he had 704 first downs, 78 receptions farther than 40 yards, 226 receptions farther than 20 yards and he averaged 70.1 yards a game. Through all of this he only had 13 fumbles off receptions.
Randy moss is an inspiration to others because he had so much trouble back in his hometown and high school yet he still persevered through it to end up succeeding. During Moss’s senior year at Du Pont High, a friend of Moss’s found a racist label with his name on it carved into a desktop. Moss’s friend who was black beat a white student who he thought did it. Moss entered the fight after the white student had been knocked to the ground and kicked him, twice. Randy had just turned 18 and was charged with two felonies. Moss pleaded guilty to two counts of battery and spent 30 days in jail. Many people believe it was because of his color he was treated so harsh for a high school fight. Although he was not the best person many years ago, he respected and knew the game and eventually changed and continues to help out by analyzing and commentating on NFL games today. Twenty teams passed up on Moss because they thought he would be too risky. Randy was supposed to be one of the top five picks, but because of his attitude he wasn’t. Moss realized this and he worked really hard to achieve his goals. After Randy’s high school won the state title, everyone was focused on the team pushing each other around and celebrating about their win. Randy was over by the stands grabbing a kid and bringing him into it so he could enjoy it too. There was good in Randy. With all of the records he’s broken and all the unique talents he’s held, will the NFL ever see anyone with the speed, catching and running abilities, and height that Randy Moss had, ever again?
